Feeling stuck, or confused? It’s a good thing.
Have you ever felt like you’re overwhelmed, stuck, or confused?
We all come to a crossroad in life where big changes seem imminent. Whether we have been seeking those changes or not, the sheer amount of them can be overwhelming. We can feel stuck, confused. We might lose sense of who we are for a while. We might even question what we are doing, and what we are doing it for. We might question why it is happening and why it has to be so hard. We might feel disenchanted with life, discouraged, experience a loss of purpose, a detachment from significance. Things no longer have meaning, no longer seem to add up. Or perhaps it’s just us who have lost the way?
If you relate to any of the experiences above, you are on the right track. Yes, let me reassure you. Life is your existence on a timeline, and time implies change. Change is a cycle that creation moves through in its chase of purpose. Purpose is a quality of human nature. So trust me, you’re Fine. All enlightenment is preceded by crisis.
The conflict you are experiencing is a negotiation between your longing for what’s to come and your fear of the unknown. It is not meant to last. You are not meant to freeze in fear, you are not meant to be stuck in longing. Soon the negotiation will yield its fruit and you will be back in motion. But if you have doubts that you are stuck, that motion is not in the cards for you, then this is to help you cross the bridge.
Reach into yourself, connect with your longing, dance with your fears.
There is no roadmap for that, you will draw your map as you go, as you figure out the blocks and rocks. There is no roadmap for that because there is no one like you, and no life like yours, that has ever existed before you to tell you where to put your foot next. But luckily for you, there is a guide to human nature, universal and divine as it is, taught throughout the ages to man by His Creator. And that guide is available for you to follow, and it begins with a simple command: Read, in the name of Your Lord The Creator.
Quran 96:1 Al-Alaq
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),
And if you’re confused where to begin with your reading, then here’s the second simple command guiding you to the heart of the matter:
Quran 13:11 Ar-Ra’d
For each, there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah. Verily! Allah will not change the condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves. But when Allah wills a people’s punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.
So Read. And begin with your own book. Without understanding ourselves, how can we change our state?
Walk to the nearest mirror and look at it. What do you see? That is your first page. Do you love what you’re reading?
Don’t love your Self. Rather, love Yourself.
Love who you are, Because you are God’s work.
Love what you have, Because it comes from God.
Love the gifts in your life, Because they make it all worthwhile.
Love the challenges sent your way, Because they come to teach you.
Love the losses you endure, Because they remind you that you are still here.
Love your life, Because it is your chance at experiencing existence.
Love your Lord, Because He gave you a choice,
A choice to love in a world full of hatred,
A choice to forgive in a world full of vengeance,
A choice to find truth in a world full of lies,
A choice to spread peace in a world raging with wars,
A choice to Become .. whoever you want to be,
A choice to have contentment in an age of desires,
A choice to exist.
This is a Love that springs from your soul and takes anchor in it.
With it, your inner peace will overpower your needs.
With that you achieve Freedom,
The freedom from having to please others when you don’t want to,
The freedom from fitting in where you don’t want to,
The freedom from doing things because you are told to.
With that you build Strength,
The strength to say No when you need to,
The strength to believe in the potential God gave you,
The strength to travel the worlds inner and outer,
The strength to expand and explore,
The strength to stretch beyond your form,
The strength to try even when it’s hard,
The strength to be even when it’s painful.
With that you achieve Awareness,
Awareness of how much you don’t know,
Awareness of how many mistakes you make,
Awareness of how tricky decisions can be,
Awareness of how much impact your words and actions have, the good and the bad,
Awareness of how delicate human nature is,
Awareness of how vulnerable you can be,
Awareness of how confusing your mind can be,
Awareness of how much there is to learn,
Awareness of all the ways you can grow,
Awareness of the importance of guidance.
With that you attain Courage,
The courage to seek knowledge,
The courage to live experiences,
The courage to admit your faults,
The courage to want to fix them,
The courage to enact your beliefs,
The courage to make the hard decisions you know are right,
The courage to raise your voice in the presence of cynicism,
The courage to stand up for yourself when your boundaries are crossed,
The courage to speak truth when you’re laughed at,
The courage to hold on to your integrity when the world doesn’t seem to understand,
The courage to forgive those who wrong you,
The courage to love those who love you.
With that you gain Humility,
Humility towards those who have raised you,
Humility towards those who teach, guide, and support you,
Humility towards those more fortunate than you,
Humility towards those less fortunate than you,
Humility towards those you look up to,
Humility towards those who need your help,
Humility towards those more knowledgeable than you,
Humility towards your Creator.
With that you achieve wholeness.
Wholeness knows no helplessness.
And know that God does not go back on His Word.
